On Wednesday, July 17, we held the Lunchtime Lecture “Malaysia: Gender Equality and Diversity in Malaysia” with Mr. Fadli Adilah, Deputy Chief of Mission from the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo. First introducing Malaysia’s geography, culture, and political and economic systems, he then discussed Malaysia and Japan’s relationship of active economic, cultural, and diplomatic exchange. After highlighting Malaysia’s notable ethnic and religious diversity, he also explained the ways in which Malaysia is working to improve issues in gender equality, such as the 2004 establishment of Malaysia’s Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development. Mr. Fadli Adilah closed by introducing some of Malaysia’s prominent women in government, and suggested that Malaysia’s efforts to develop economically on a global scale will work in tandem with improvements on the issues of discrimination and women’s rights.
Thank you to everyone who attended, and a special thanks to Mr. Fadli Adilah.
