MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports Science & Technology in Japan) Scholarship Students

Application Information for applicants of the MEXT Scholarship through Embassy Recommendation including 中国赴日本国留学生 (Research Students, 2024 entry) who have passed the First Screening

Deadline : 2023/8/25(Fri.)

If you have passed the First Screening of the MEXT Scholarship for 2024 (Research Students) conducted by the Japanese diplomatic mission in your home country and wish to be accepted as a MEXT Scholarship Student at Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, please then take the following steps for acceptance application.
 
Please note that if your application for acceptance at our graduate school is successful, the initial student status of acceptance will be Foreign Research Student, which is a non-regular course. If you wish to be enrolled at a regular course (Master’s course or Doctoral course), you must also take and pass the entrance examination for the regular course of our graduate school which is conducted separately.
1.Choose ONE faculty member as a future supervisor.
You can get information on each department, faculty members' research fields, etc. at the following websites:

2.Submit the required documents.

1) Application documents for acceptance
APPLICATION FOR ACCEPTANCE FOR MEXT SCHOLARSHIP(Designated Form of the graduate school)
*Print from the link above, fill out the form and sign it with your own handwritten signature.
Do not forget to write the name of academic advisor that you wish to be supervised by and the department that you are applying to.
②Passing Certificate of the First Screening issued by the Japanese diplomatic mission
 
2) Complete set of the documents submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission that has been stamped by the Japanese diplomatic mission and returned to you, as follows:
①Application Form
②Field of Study and Research Program Plan
③Academic transcript
*If you have completed graduate course (or if you have been enrolled in graduate course), please submit transcripts for both undergraduate course and graduate course.
④Graduation certificate or degree certificate of the university attended
(or an attested document certifying that the applicant will graduate from the school, where applicable)
*If you have completed graduate course (or if you have been enrolled in graduate course), please submit both graduation certificate for undergraduate course and completion certificate (or expected completion certificate) for graduate course.
⑤Recommendation from the principal or the adviser of the last university attended or the university currently attending
⑥Medical certificate
⑦Abstract of thesis (only if submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission)
⑧Certificate of language proficiency (only if submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission)
⑨Recommendation from the present employer (only if submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission)
 
3) Registration for application (online)

Please submit the documents listed above in 1) and 2) in 2 PDF files and the title of each PDF file should be as follows:
Documents listed in 1): “Full Name_2024 MEXT_ application documents for acceptance”
Documents listed in 2): “Full Name_2024 MEXT_ documents submitted to the embassy”
*Word files are not acceptable.

*The required documents of 1) and 2) should be submitted in PDF files but in cases when it is difficult to access the Internet, please send the documents by postal mail to the address below. In this case, you should send us your documents via trailable mail service such as “EMS”-Express Mail Service-, DHL, and so on.

〔Deadline〕
Must arrive no later than Friday, August 25, 2023(JST)
We do not respond to a request after the deadline.
3.Notes
-For applicants of 中国赴日本国留学生 who are also candidates of 早期渡日, please be sure to let us know before you apply.
-For applicants of the MEXT Scholarship through Embassy Recommendation who are also recommended by the ASCOJA, please be sure to let us know when you apply.
-The screening results will be announced to applicants by Wednesday, September 27, 2023(JST).
No inquiries regarding results will be accepted earlier than the above mentioned date.
-Please be sure to read FAQ for more notes. For those who wish to enter Graduate Program on Global Society (GSP), please also confirm the special notes in the “1. Choose ONE faculty member as a future supervisor” part.
-We are unable to consider you as a candidate for acceptance unless you fulfill all the requirements and submit all the documents required.
-The department that you are applying to might require you to submit additional documents for their screening at a later date.
